Aarman Sohaili is a global health specialist and PhD candidate in Public Health Epidemiology at Maastricht University (CAPHRI), where he works on diagnostic innovations built for African health systems. His research in Kenya tested whether a multiplex point-of-care PCR platform can replace syndromic management of sexually transmitted infections, the standard across much of the continent. He now brings the same question to Somalia, working with the Puntland Ministry of Health and the Somalia Institute of Health Research on STI and HIV surveillance among nomadic populations. These highly mobile communities often move across regions and borders beyond the reach of conventional laboratory-based services and, until now, have remained largely invisible in national surveillance data.
