Binyam Tilahun is a Full Professor and the Founding Director of the Center for Digital Health and Implementation Sciences (CDHI) at the University of Gondar. With more than 20 years of international experience in digital health and health systems across three continents, he has led numerous global initiatives at the intersection of digital health and primary healthcare.

Over the past decade, he has worked closely with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health and six leading Ethiopian universities to establish and scale the Capacity Building and Mentorship Partnership (CBMP). This initiative bridges academia and the health system to strengthen Ethiopia’s health information system and advance the country’s digital health agenda.

Prof. Tilahun is an accomplished researcher with more than 250 policy-relevant publications, produced in close collaboration with health system implementers. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Digital Health Implementation Sciences at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and earned his PhD in Medical Informatics from the University of Münster, Germany.

His contributions have been recognised through several prestigious awards and fellowships. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics and a member of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences. In 2025, he received the Ethiopian Ministry of Health’s Outstanding Professional Contribution in the Health Sector Award in recognition of his impact on the country's health sector.
