Mr Haftay Abraha serves as a Researcher and Lecturer in the College of Veterinary Sciences at Mekelle University, Ethiopia. His academic credentials include a BSc in Veterinary Sciences (Animal Health) and a Master of Science in Medical Microbiology, both earned at Mekelle University. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China.

He is a results-oriented professional with over four years of experience applying best practices in teaching, academic advising, and community service. His professional experience includes: Researcher and Senior Lecturer in Introduction to Cell and Cellular Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology (from 23 July 2020 to the present) in the Department of Basic and Diagnostic Sciences, and Chief Laboratory Technologist (from 28 November 2010 to 23 July 2020) at the Veterinary Microbiology and Public Health Laboratory, College of Veterinary Sciences, Mekelle University, Mekelle, Ethiopia.

He is an active researcher who has authored a publication in a peer-reviewed journal and presented his work at numerous national and international conferences. Currently, his research focuses on the phenotypic and genotypic characterisation of pathogenic bacteria, particularly antimicrobial resistance, foodborne pathogens, and ESKAPE pathogens; the development of a novel screening approach for antimicrobial drugs and compounds; and the elucidation of the mechanisms of action of antimicrobials against M. tuberculosis, M. marinum, and NTM. He is particularly passionate about advancing translational research from bench to bedside.

He has a strong interest in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research spanning the spectrum from basic to implementation research, drug/compound screening, drug discovery, and clinical trials.
