Dr Hamid Y. Hassen is an epidemiologist, researcher, and lecturer specialising in environmental and public health, non-communicable diseases, implementation research, epidemiological methods, evidence synthesis, and health data analytics. He is a Senior Researcher at the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO), Belgium, and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Antwerp. He holds a PhD in Medical Sciences (Epidemiology) from the University of Antwerp.

His research integrates epidemiology, environmental health, and advanced data analytics to address complex public health challenges. At VITO, he leads and contributes to several European research initiatives, including PARC, BEST-COST, INQUIRE, and GOLIATH, focusing on chemical risk assessment, environmental exposures, and their impacts on human health.

Dr Hassen applies advanced epidemiological methods, statistical modelling, machine learning, and large-scale population data analyses to investigate health risks, evaluate interventions, and generate evidence for public health policy and practice. His work aims to strengthen disease prevention, improve environmental health decision-making, and support the translation of scientific evidence into effective public health actions. He is also actively engaged in teaching, mentoring, and fostering international research collaborations.
