Dr Jeffrey Collins received his medical and public health degrees from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and completed training in infectious diseases and clinical research at Emory University in Atlanta. He is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Emory Division of Infectious Diseases, where he serves as Co-Director of the Emory Tuberculosis Center’s Bioinformatics and Integrated Systems Biology Core and Director of Immunometabolism in the Emory Clinical Biomarkers Laboratory.

His research group uses approaches in high-resolution metabolomics, lipidomics, and transcriptomics to better understand the host-pathogen interactions that impact tuberculosis outcomes and immunity. They investigate both how metabolism shapes the host response following tuberculosis infection, as well as the long-term effects of tuberculosis on host metabolism and the risk of non-communicable diseases.

His group also uses ‘-omics’ tools to identify blood-based biomarkers of tuberculosis disease with potential for translation to novel point-of-care diagnostics.
