Lenka Beňová is Professor of Maternal and Reproductive Health in the Sexual and Reproductive Health Group at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium. She primarily applies quantitative methods from epidemiology and demography to both primary and secondary data to better understand and address issues related to access to healthcare, healthcare provision, and quality of care.
She leads a portfolio of research aimed at identifying and addressing the unique challenges of ensuring maternal health and wellbeing in urban settings through the UrbanBirth Collective. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led an interdisciplinary global research programme that sought to gain an in-depth understanding of the disruptions caused by the pandemic to maternal health service provision.
