Dr Netsanet Worku is a DAAD Scholar and completed his PhD in Biochemistry for Infectious Diseases Research at the University of Leipzig in Germany. He is now an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases and Human Nutrition at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia, with expertise in emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, NTDs, vector-borne diseases, One Health, and global health. His research integrates epidemiology, infectious disease surveillance, implementation research, and nutrition to address priority public health challenges in low- and middle-income countries.

He has led and collaborated on internationally funded research projects, published numerous peer-reviewed articles, and contributes to regional and global research and policy initiatives, including the African Research Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ARNTD), the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH), and the Association of Schools of Public Health in Africa (ASPHA). He has also served as a judge for the WHO/TDR Global Crowdfunding Contest, supporting the review of research proposals. Dr Worku is committed to strengthening research capacity through mentoring early-career scientists and supervising postgraduate trainees. Dr Worku was a voluntary postdoctoral research collaborator with the Reactor Lab project team at Harvard Medical School. He is an active global health educator and teaches postgraduate students and researchers from diverse countries. Dr Worku has also served as the Director of the Institute of Public Health at the University of Gondar.
