Temesgen Ashine is a PhD candidate jointly affiliated with Arba Minch University and the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI), Ethiopia. His research focuses on the ecology, bionomics, distribution, and transmission biology of malaria vectors, with particular emphasis on vector–parasite interactions and transmission dynamics. His work investigates the emergence of the invasive Anopheles stephensi and its coexistence with native vectors in urban and peri-urban settings, integrating field entomology, molecular diagnostics, and epidemiological approaches. Over the past five years, he has contributed to more than 15 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has supported the development of Ethiopia's national policy brief on An. stephensi. He also serves as a peer reviewer for several international journals.

"Anopheles stephensi is changing the landscape of urban malaria in Africa. Exposure to this invasive mosquito around the home carries a malaria risk comparable to that of native vectors, underscoring the need for urgent urban surveillance and control efforts."
