Veerle Vanlerberghe studied Medicine at Ghent University and worked as a medical doctor and coordinator for Médecins Sans Frontières in several of its countries of operation before joining the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, as a research assistant in 2003.
She obtained her PhD from Ghent University in 2011. She is a senior epidemiologist whose research focuses on the epidemiology and risk mapping of emerging infectious diseases, as well as the evaluation of the impact of arboviral disease control interventions. She is currently Head of the Education Unit in the Department of Public Health at ITM.
